A golf skee ball game is a type of arcade game that combines the familiarity and challenge of  golf with the novelty of skee ball. In this game, players putt golf balls down a ramp and try to land them in different holes with varying point values, similar to the arcade classic, skee ball.

Custom golf skee ball games can also have additional features, such as obstacles on the ramp or different types of balls with varying weights or textures, to add more challenge and variety to the gameplay. A golf skee ball game can be set up indoors or outdoors, making it a great option for live events and tradeshows, providing a unique and enjoyable way to combine two classic games into one fun and exciting activity.

In this post, we’re going to break down what goes into creating your own golf skee ball game.

How to Make Your Own Golf Skee Ball Game

With some basic materials you might find around your house and woodworking skills, you can build a golf skee ball game that’s sure to provide hours of entertainment. Here’s how to get started:

1. Gather Materials and Tools

You’ll need a variety of materials to create your golf skee ball game, including:

  • Plywood or other wood for the base, ramp, and backboard
  • Nails or screws
  • Golf balls & putters
  • Acrylic paint or markers
  • Hole saw or jigsaw
  • Measuring tape and ruler
  • Sandpaper or sanding block
  • Wood glue

You’ll also need some basic tools to help you create your game, such as a drill, saw, hammer, and paintbrushes.

2. Design Your Game

Before you start building the whole thing, you’ll need to decide on the size and shape of the different components. You can base your design on a traditional skee ball game, including a launching ramp and raised borders around the holes, but with smaller holes for golf balls.

You may also want to add obstacles or hazards to the ramp, such as sand traps or water hazards, to make the game more challenging.

3. Build the Base

Begin by building the base of your DIY skee ball machine, which should be a rectangular box made of plywood or other wood. Use screws or nails to attach the sides of the box to the bottom.

4. Build the Ramp

Next, for ball return, create a ramp for the balls to roll down. Cut a piece of plywood to size, and attach it to the top of the base at an angle using screws or nails.

5. Install the backboard

Cut a piece of wood to fit the back of the game and attach it securely to the sides.

6. Create the Holes

Using a hole saw or jigsaw, make several small circle cutouts in the board that will serve as the targets for the golf balls. You can vary the size and placement of the holes to make the game more challenging.

7. Finish the game

Sand the wood surfaces and smooth out any edges and any additional decorations or embellishments.

8. Add Scoring and Decorations

Using acrylic paint or markers, label each hole with a number corresponding to its point value. You can also paint a picture on the ramp and base with green paint to create a golf course look.

9. Play and Test

With the game completed, it’s time to test it out. Choose a flat location and try rolling some golf balls down the ramp and see how they land in the different holes. Make any necessary adjustments to the ramp or hole placement to ensure that the game is challenging but still enjoyable to play.
